What to Expect at Your First Adjustment

Nervous about your first visit? Here is exactly how a first adjustment works.

What to Expect at Your First Adjustment

If you've never seen a chiropractor, the unknown can feel bigger than the back pain that brought you in. Here's exactly what your first visit looks like — start to finish — so you can walk in knowing what to expect.

Before You Arrive

Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, and bring a photo ID plus your insurance card if you plan to use coverage. If you have recent imaging or a list of current medications, bring those too. Arriving about ten minutes early gives you time to complete your intake paperwork without feeling rushed.

The Consultation

Your visit starts with a conversation, not a treatment table. We'll ask where it hurts, when it started, what makes it better or worse, and how it's affecting your daily life. This is your chance to tell your story — the more detail, the better we can help.

The Exam

Next comes a focused physical exam: posture, range of motion, and simple orthopedic and neurological tests that show us how your spine and joints are moving. If the exam suggests imaging would change your care, we'll explain why before anything is ordered.

  • Posture and alignment screening
  • Range-of-motion checks
  • Orthopedic and neurological tests
  • X-rays only if clinically necessary

Will the Adjustment Hurt?

For most people, no. Adjustments are gentle, and many patients feel relief right away. You may hear a soft "pop" as pressure releases from a joint — that's normal and not painful. If you're nervous or prefer low-force care, tell us; gentle, instrument-assisted techniques are always available.

Your Care Plan

Before you leave, we'll explain what we found in plain language and recommend a specific, time-bound care plan with a clear endpoint — never open-ended treatment. You'll know your plan, your timeline, and what to do at home to speed things up between visits.

Booking Your First Visit

Most new patients can be seen within the week. The hardest part is making the call — after that, we handle the rest. Book online in about a minute, or call and we'll find a time that works for you.
